The Hannibal Public Schools board of education met during a special meeting last week to discuss bond refinancing.
At last week’s capital projects work session–a refinancing of a bond issue of $14.5 million was presented by L.J. Hart.
Superintendent Susan Johnson says this would be around a $3.65 million saving.
The board decided to tabled that proposal as they decided to speak with financial advisors to ensure that it was in the best interest of the district.
Johnson says although the discussion was lengthy, it was necessary to take the proper steps moving forward.

“I think what you’re seeing is they are just wanting to make sure we are making the best financial decisions both with refinancing, just like when you refinance your home, to be able to save money because the more money we can save, the more of that money can be used to educate our kids vs having to be paying for bonds,” Johnson said.
The board chose a financial advisor and voted that by 1:00 tomorrow, they must review the proposal for the
