Several big races were decided as voters cast their ballots on statewide and local races. Four proposed constitutional amendments were on the ballot statewide, as well as runoff races for Louisiana attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer. Additionally, dozes of local races — including heated races for parish president and sheriff — were decided. Below is a breakdown of all of those races and more. Landry, a Republican, beat Gwen Collins-Greenup in Saturday’s runoff to replace incumbent Kyle Ardoin, who did not seek reelection. Landry is a former state representative from Lafayette, and has worked in Ardoin’s office for four years. Landry will take on the task of replacing Louisiana’s outdated voting machines, which don’t produce the paper ballots critical to ensuring accurate election results. Seal was first elected sheriff in 2011, and was the parish’s accessor for 18 years. Smith is retired from the Marine Corps, and now runs a ranch near the Mississippi state line.
