HIGH POINT — As the managing director, investments, for Wells Fargo Advisors, James E. Holmes III has spent most of his professional career studying the impact of a global economy on individual investors, and later this month, the financial services veteran will bring that lifelong career journey to attendees at the 2023 Furniture Today Leadership Conference.

With more than 32 years of experience consulting with clients in all aspects of their wealth management needs, Holmes says he is looking forward to meeting with Leadership Conference attendees and using his skillset to help them think about their own financial goals.

“I use a client’s present and future goals to help create their financial roadmap,” he said. “I feel that wealth management planning and developing an appropriate asset allocation are two vital functions used to empower them to help make the right decisions for their lifestyle.”

As he prepares for the conference, Holmes is also monitoring global and national issues that could influence profit and financial stability in 2024. However, despite many unsettling factors in the current world economy, Holmes said that he is currently optimistic about what’s ahead next year and beyond.

“Consumers make up some 70% of gross domestic product in the U.S.,” Holmes said. “Over the past three years through a global pandemic, rapidly rising interest rates and the most significant inflation in 40 years, the consumer has remained amazingly resilient. As indicated by record home sales, durable goods purchases and consumer discretionary spending — see Starbucks’ latest earnings report — the U.S. consumer has continued to prop up the world’s strongest economy.

“While the threat of a recession, unsettled geo-political conflicts (Russia-Ukraine war, Israel-Hamas conflict) and next year’s election cycle looms large, our economy has held up quite well,” he continued. “Driven by innovation and efficiency, I think the future looks bright for our country to continue as a global leader for the future.”

Prior to working at Wells Fargo Advisors, Holmes was a senior financial consultant at Stephens Inc. and financial advisor and director at Alex Brown & Sons Inc., as well as its successor, Deutsche Bank Securities Inc.

Prior to his years in the investment industry, Holmes worked for Wachovia Bank & Trust Co., the Greater Winston Salem Chamber of Commerce and was a Vice President of the Webb Companies, a commercial real estate development firm.
