Local financial advisor claims Budget poses threats on small businesses

Mark Reilly from the KBG Chartered Accountants firm in Cavan said the changes for small businesses announced in this year’s budget will “make us uncompetitive”.

The financial advisor was talking about the government’s idea to increase the national mimimum wage by 12 and a half per cent, from €11.30 to €12.76 and increasing the number of paid sick days for employees from 3 days to 5.

Mr Reilly who has offices in Cavan, Bailieborough, Granard and Longford also said the workplace pension enrollment scheme which is due to start in January next year was an added burden on local small businesses.

He also said that although much has been made of the €250 million pot to offset the cost of business rates for SMEs, there has been little effect since a lot of his clients pay very little rates in the first place:
